2020 Rookie Rankings (Post-Combine)

What’s up, guys? Welcome to the off-season. With the Super Bowl behind us and the XFL officially underway, it’s time to begin grinding for the 2020 NFL season.

As we dig in to this upcoming rookie class, we wanted to share our preliminary rankings with you all to give you a leg up on your league mates once #DraftSZN rolls around.

With the combine behind us, we’ve solidified these rankings as some guys blew us away (Denzel Mims, Devin Duvernay, Antonio Gibson) and others face-planted (Zack Moss, Lamical Perine, Jauan Jennings).

I know some guys skipped the testing and are waiting for their pro day, so we’ll see how it goes for the likes of JK Dobbins, Tyler Johnson, Tee Higgins, Lynn Bowden, and Thad Moss.

A final rankings update will occur post NFL Draft, once we see landing spots + draft capital, which is far and away the most predictive metric of future success, so be sure to check back.

You may notice we’ve preemptively put Antonio Gibson with the RBs, which he played with at the senior bowl; however, he tested with the WRs at the combine. I think this is a really just a big brain move by his agent to try to get him the bag (Rookie WRs make more than RBs), but ultimately, he will end up converting, similar to Ty Montgomery.

This guy was initially cast as a WR at Memphis in 2018 in a limited role (6 rec, 99 yds, 2 TDS), but with the departure of Tony Pollard and Darrell Henderson, they gave him touches at RB the following year. This guy is so explosive with the ball in his hands and I love his dynamism–He can do it all. Let’s take a look at his performance in 2019:

33 Carries, 369 yards (11.2 ypc), 4 Touchdowns

38 Receptions, 735 yards (19.3 ypr), 8 Touchdowns

23 Kick Returns, 645 yards, (28.04 avg) 1 Touchdown

How did this guy not warrant more touches?????? He’s a big play waiting to happen.

TLDR; Get. On. My. Team. This man has an incredibly high-ceiling, so feel confident swinging for the fences in the second round in your rookie drafts.

I also went ahead and moved Chase Claypool over to the TE list. I really think he’s in contention for top 3 TE status in this class, had he already made the switch. Scouts asked if he would test with the TEs at the combine, but Chase insisted he is a WR and wanted to test as such. This will likely only set him further back, the longer he delays the transition. Ultimately, he could be drafted as a WR and make the swap in camp, but then you are stuck with at least a 2 year carrying cost on your bench/taxi squad waiting on the guy to figure it out. TE is arguably one of the toughest positions to play/learn so it will take some time. He’s an athletic freak and I could easily see him paralleling a Darren Waller-esque transition (without the booze) from WR, but I’m not going to bank on him being the next Brandon Marshall. I love him as a player and prospect, but I am willing to let my league-mates take him too early in drafts and trade for him down the road after they lose their patience.
