Austin’s Week 7 DFS Player Pool
Quarterbacks – This week we’ve got several mobile QB’s in great match-ups so there are several directions we can go. At $6,700 Kyler Murray heads to New York to take on Danny Dimes ($6,100) and will hopefully have Christian Kirk back in this shootout with the second highest total of the slate at 50.5 O/U. Daniel Jones gets Evan Engram and Saquads back, but Shepard will remain out. Josh Allen ($6,500) gets the hapless Dolphins, now lead by journeyman Ryan Fitzmagic, at home in Buffalo and will have Devin Singletary, John Brown, and Robert Foster all healthy after the bye. The LAR/ATL game is projected to be the chalkiest due to it’s 55 point O/U, the highest on the slate. Pick your poison with Matty Ice or Jared Goff priced back to back at $6,300 and $6,200. Ryan has been on fire this year averaging over 27 FPPG and while Goff has been up and down, but this Atlanta secondary has been shredded and is giving up 24.9 FPPG to opposing QBs, second-most in the league. I like Brissett ($5,600) as a tournament play at home off the bye in a divisional match-up with Deshaun Watson, battling for the top of the AFC South. Beowulf comes in at $5,400 after flopping last week against a tough Saints defense, who appears to have figured things out. Now he travels to Cincinnati to roll over the Bengals, who are giving up 22.1 FPPG to the QB position. Don’t be nervous to slot him into your cash lineups this week. My heart breaks for Marcus Mariota, but Ryan Tannehill is slated for his first start as a Titan this Sunday in Nissan Stadium. We’ll see if this provides a spark for the Titans, but it should bode well for the passing game, and at only $4,800, he could be the key to unlock the stud RBs and Evan Engram. If you pair him with AJ Brown ($3,800), you have a very cheap stack with a lot of upside, as I expect Casey Hayward to shadow Corey Davis, the pseudo-X receiver. It also appears Delanie Walker will sit this one out, so Adam Humphries ($3,400) could serve as a security blanket.
Running Backs – The Fantasy Gods giveth and they taketh away. We get Saquon Barkley ($8,900) back this week from a high ankle sprain at home versus Arizona, but I’m not ready to roll out the red carpet for him in cash this week. We lose Alvin Kamara ($7,500) on the road in Chicago, so don’t fall for the Latavius Murray donkey chalk at $5,100. In cash, we are jamming in Dalvin Cook @ DET at $8,000 and Leonard Fournette @ CIN for $7,000. I don’t understand the lack of respect for Lenny on DraftKings, they refuse to price him appropriately, but he’s become a certified bell-cow this year with his consistent usage in the passing game and seeing more than 15 carries a game. He does only have 1 touchdown on the year, so he’s due for some positive regression in that regard. David Johnson at $7,800 vs the Giants seemed to be the 3rd option, but he is questionable and practiced in a limited fashion on Friday. If he’s ruled out, Chase Edmonds becomes a lock at $4,700. I like both Gurley ($6,400) and Freeman ($5,400) in the ATL/LAR shootout and they should come in lower owned with folks trying to cram in the Rams WRs with Julio, Ridley, or Hooper. Both of these teams have been gashed in the running game and are giving up a several catches out of the backfield. I think you can go back to the well this week on Derrick Henry at $5,800. LAC is giving up 21.4 FPPG to RBs, which is top 10 in the league in Points Allowed. Tannehill should open up the passing game and garner some attention, which should allow for some running lanes to open up for the Tractor. Joe Mixon, Kerryon Johnson, and Josh Jacobs‘ prices are baffling to me, all coming in around $5k. Even in tougher match-ups, I think Mixon and KJ are in play for tournaments, but Jacobs feels like a cash lock after that performance in London against the Bears (143 yards, 2 TDs). Now he and the Raiders get the Green Bay run funnel defense, surrendering 23.4 FPPG? I’ll take it.
Wide Receivers – We’ve got so many receivers in juicy match-ups this week that it’s difficult to play them all. At the top of the board, you just have to keep playing Julio and Hopkins until we get that smash week we know they’re capable of. Cooper Kupp ($7,400) continues to climb in price and is nearing the elite status. He’s on the road in the dome against the Falcons this week who are giving up a whopping 29.4 FPPG, putting all Rams WRs in play for me. You can get some savings with Woods at $5,900 or Cooks at $5,400. We’ve yet to see the “boom” week from Cooks that we know he’s capable of, so he’d be my choice for tournaments in hopes that McVay gets him going. Larry Fitzgerald ($6,100) and *Christian Kirk ($5,000) are @ the Giants who are conceding 29.3 FPPG to opposing WRs, putting them in play for cash. DJ Chark ($6,000) is currently WR5 on the year with 30 rec/528 yds/5 TDs. He and Minshew will look to get back on track against Cincinnati after he was shadowed by Lattimore last week. I’m also excited to get TY Hilton ($5,900) back from the bye at home against the Texans, who are all to familiar with him. In 14 career games vs HOU, Hilton is averaging 5.4 rec on ~9 tgts for 103 yds and 9 total TDs. There are 4 WRs with 20+ catches, 70% catch rate, and 10 YPC: Chris Godwin, Tyler Lockett, Amari Cooper, and John Brown. At $5,500 at home vs the Dolphins, this is as good a spot as any with CB Xavien Howard questionable and S Reshad Jones ruled out. Wheels all the way up for Smokey. A few sub $4k receivers in play for cash would be AJ Brown, who I alluded to earlier, Albert Wilson, and Allen Lazard. The Bills have an incredible defense and will look to contain Parker and Williams. If the Dolphins are going to move the football at all, it will be short passes to Albert Wilson and out of the backfield to Kenyan Drake, assuming he isn’t traded or shelved. Lazard is literally the last man standing for the Pack, with Adams out and Allison doubtful and MVS questionable. In MNF, Lazard went 4/5 for 65 yards and a TD and is min price on DraftKings. It appears he’s earned some trust from Rodgers.
Tight Ends – Play Evan Engram. That’s it. That’s the tweet.
Defenses – D/ST is a little tricky this week with the good match-ups priced all the way up. You have to pay up for the Bills ($4,300) vs MIA, 49ers ($4,100) @ WAS, or Jags ($3,500) @ CIN, unless you punt for the Colts ($2,000) at home fresh from the bye against the Texans (who just contained Mahomes), or Washington ($1,700) at home against the 49ers, who we’ve seen turn the ball over. I also don’t mind the Saints ($2,900) who have rounded into form and presumably will face Mitchell Trubisky.
